General Information
Public Service Announcements (PSAs) will be released daily at least eight hours in advance of fogging. These PSAs will identify the Insect Management Areas the ICB is planning to treat that evening, weather permitting. Until further notice, fogging will be carried out on a daily basis between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Fogging will not occur when temperatures are below 13 degrees Celsius and/or wind speeds are not conducive to fogging.
The insecticide Pro Malathion ULV® will be used. This insecticide has been approved for use in Canada by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency. Pro Malathion ULV® will be used in accordance with federally approved label directions by licensed pesticide applicators.
All buffer zones will be respected. Crews will ensure that the sprayer is not treating within 90 metres on each side of a registered property on the front street, side street, and rear lane.
Property owners not wanting insecticides applied on or adjacent to their principal residence may register as “Anti-Pesticide Registrants” (APR) for the adult nuisance mosquito control program. Those who wish to register must provide identification that ties the registrant to the address being registered for a buffer zone. A photocopy or scanned document such as a driver’s licence or a utility bill will suffice as acceptable identification proving primary residence. All buffer zones will be respected if the request is received 72 hours prior to fogging in that Insect Management Area.
There are four different options to register:
- In
writing to Insect Control Branch at 3 Grey Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2L 1V2,
- Emailing
311 at 311@winnipeg.ca

100 Decibels: A Deaf Mime Troupe
Press Release
For
Immediate Release
“Hearing loss of 100 decibels is equivalent to
deafness” – American Medical Association
100
Decibels: A Deaf Mime Troupe will make their Fringe debut at this year’s
festival. Composed of four entirely deaf artists, the troupe’s mission is to
help bridge the gap between the deaf and hearing communities through highly
skilled mime storytelling.
“They
are artists first and foremost. They happen to be deaf but they make no
apologies to that effect,” said Shannon Guile, a member of the nationally
renowned sketch comedy troupe Hot Thespian Action. “The medium of mime allows
them to communicate with the hearing community in an unprecedented way. It’s
beautiful to watch these connections happen for the first time.”
A
specialist in mime and physical comedy, Guile has been working with the troupe
for over two years as part of a pilot project through the Manitoba Cultural
Society of the Deaf. Under her training and mentorship, the troupe has wowed
audiences during performances at Deaf Centre Manitoba and a conference for the
Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada.
“The
quality of the troupe’s performance is staggering,” said Guile. “It’s
incredible how well the expressive nature of sign language lends itself to
mime. They are amazing storytellers who have finally found the perfect medium.”
Troupe
members Jordan Sangalang, Joanna Hawkins and Christopher de Guzman all
currently live in Winnipeg but originally hail from Poland and The Philippines.
In creating their fringe show ‘Can You Hear Me Now?” they drew upon their
diverse backgrounds, experiences and senses of humour to create a series of
sketches that range from slapstick to heartbreakingly poignant. As their
director and mentor, Guile helped shape their stories, as well as other stories
gathered from other members of the deaf community.
“Many
of the sketches are rooted in comedy, but it was also our priority to
communicate the deaf experience to our audience,” said Guile. “The show is
primarily entertaining, but audiences shouldn’t come in thinking this will be
some cute little mime show. These guys are extremely talented and they take no
prisoners.”
“Can You Hear Me Now?” is being performed at Venue 24, 188 Princess Street.
For interviews, please contact Shannon Guile at shannonguile@gmail.com or 204 997 4183.
