Call for Submission for Artists with Disabilities

ARTS & DISABILITY NETWORK MANITOBA

Call for Submission – Artists with Disabilities

Art + Body: See Me Hear Juried Art Show
September 8 – October 11, 2013
Submission Deadline: Aug. 15, 2013

This year’s Art + Body fair will explore different ways of engaging body senses when one sense is interrupted, amplified or gone. Art + Body: See Me Hear will include a four-week juried art show at the St. Boniface Library and a two-day event at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and Plug In ICA. One of our featured performers, Christine Sun Kim from New York, is a Deaf sound artist whose practice centres on “reclaiming sound as property generally considered to belong only to those who can hear.” She will be performing at MoMA in August, 2013.

The submitted artwork will challenge the authority of verbal communication (e.g. pieces may explore how American Sign Language is physical and spatial and represents another way of communication). You may submit up to three (3) pieces of 2D or 3D artwork. Video, sound and performance art will not be accepted. Artists are paid CARFAC-recommended rates.

Jurors: Paul Butler, Curator of Contemporary Art, Winnipeg Art Gallery; Diana Thorneycroft, Artist; one out-of-province juror to be confirmed.

Submission requirements:

- At least one high quality photo of each submitted piece
- An artist statement of the work
- An artist CV

St. Boniface Library
At the corner of Provencher and Tache, the exhibit space is a large enclosed glass case visible from the library and the mall area. Artists are advised to consider the parameters of the space when preparing their submission. The artwork will also be displayed in the lecture room off Eckhardt Hall in the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

Arts & Disability Network Manitoba will take all reasonable precautions to ensure all artwork is safe, however, ADNM will not be held responsible or any piece(s) that are damaged, lost or stolen. Arts & Disability Network Manitoba will never ask you to disclose the nature of your disability.

Please send all submissions to: info@adnm.ca by Aug. 15, 2013.
